Dam Van Huynh

About
Developing his own methodology of torso division, Dam has carved out a unique choreographic voice. Selecting moments of everyday life, Dam transfers these elements in his work, expanding gestures towards new potential imagery. The result is a physically innovative dance creating a sense of surrealism, where the capacities of the human body are explored to their extremes and infinite details become prominent.
The company aims to be a multifaceted hub where talent is nurtured and allow every artist involved to develop further. The wide range and variety of works produced by the company advocates for an inclusive dance community pushing the boundaries of contemporary dance.
Our work has toured to Mexico, India, South East Asia, Europe and Ethiopia. Each work is unique and explores new creative territories to engage and challenge audiences. Wishing to share knowledge and experiences across cultures, Van Huynh Company is associated with Dance Bridges Festival, a cutting edge international dance biennial festival taking place in Kolkata, India.
An extremely versatile choreographer, Dam is interested in individual personalities and works across cultures with artists from diverse backgrounds.
Van Huynh Company encourages an open dialogue within the dance community and beyond. We share our creative process with the public and invite the community to join in through our bespoke programmes.
Sudden Change of Event
Sudden Change of Event is an exploration of the fragility of momentary events. Each moment of our existence can have infinite outcomes; sudden changes may occur any time and drive the individual to adapt.
The choreography draws its main focus on the different dancers and their behaviours, alternately interacting or simply coexisting without conflict.
The dancers and their individual languages, lives and choices are brought together into the same space. Sometimes, it appears that their paths have been united explicitly, when suddenly a change breaks the harmony of the moment and put an end to the encounter.

Reviews
“This piece of work has exciting ingredients” – David Green, EADT
This intricate piece of work was performed with great energy, discipline and slickness.
The dancers, all great athletes with poise and fantastic focus, worked together very much as a team with the precision and timing of a sophisticated machine. Movements, formalised and sometimes jerky, were often mesmerising.
Chance encounters and the fragility of the moment was the advertised theme of the piece and could be detected in the choreography… The first 30 minutes of this performance was stunning.
